The Bundesliga launches its official Player of the Month award for the 2026/27 season.
The Bundesliga returns with its official Player of the Month award for the 2026/27 campaign, a poll run with EA SPORTS since 2018/19. September’s shortlist features Michael Olise, Phillip Tietz, Miguel Gutiérrez, Igor Matanović, Maximian Mittelstädt and Yannik Engelhardt.

The award consists of a two-stage process in which the performance data of the players and then the choice of the fans and experts are taken into account.
The determining factor for a matchday is the month in which its Saturday falls. September’s vote covers Matchdays 2 to 4.
Olise has set the standard in the Bundesliga this season and is attracting attention well beyond Germany. The Frenchman featured in all three of Bayern’s Bundesliga fixtures in September. The only game which he didn’t start was the 0-0 draw at FC Schalke 04. Bayern noticeably missed the genius, creativity and goal threat of “Mr. Nonchalant” as the Gelsenkirchen side sat deep and ultimately kept the champions at bay.

Olise directly contributed to four goals in September, netting three and adding an assist. Only Mainz’s Sheraldo Becker logged more contributions (two goals, three assists). All four came in Bayern’s 7‑0 demolition of Union Berlin, where Olise recorded his first Bundesliga hat‑trick. In my view, that performance crowns him the early favorite.
Olise fired 12 shots that month, outshooting everyone except Harry Kane and Ibrahim Maza (13 each). No Bayern teammate matched his +1.6 shooting efficiency.
Tietz, despite missing the latest Germany squad, is enjoying career‑best form. He’s played every minute of the first four matchdays and already scored four September goals, tying him atop the scoring chart with four others. No one netted more that month. “I’m thrilled with my record, but the joy of today’s win means everything,” he said after Mainz’s 4‑3 triumph at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Alongside Eintracht’s Jonathan Burkardt and Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick, Tietz was one of only three players to find the net on all three September matchdays. The 29‑year‑old took 11 shots, converting over a third, and posted the league’s best shooting efficiency at +2.0. He also led in duels contested (106) and ranked third in duels won (44).
Leverkusen see Gutiérrez as the perfect successor to Alejandro Grimaldo. ‘He’s always been our top choice if Grimaldo left,’ the sporting director explained. Arriving from Napoli this summer, the attack‑oriented left‑back has quickly justified his high ranking on the club’s list.
Vote here for Gutiérrez!
