Hercules Gomez wants Julian Hall to lead the USMNT attack versus Peru on Saturday.
Why choose Hall for the USMNT? Could his emergence reshape America’s attack in the months ahead?
In his suggested 4‑2‑3‑1, the ex‑US striker puts the 18‑year‑old Red Bulls forward ahead of Zavier Gozo, Malik Tillman and Cavan Sullivan. Hall is chasing his first senior cap, and Gomez believes the chance is there.
Gomez told the Duel Nats podcast that many expect Folarin Balogun or Ricardo Pepi, but now the spotlight shifts to the youngster. Balogun missed camp, and Pepi withdrew injured.
Hall has already netted ten MLS goals this season, including the winner over New York City FC. Gomez likened his rapid rise at the Red Bulls to Jozy Altidore’s career trajectory, not his style of play.
The proposed formation also slots Diego Kochen in goal, Tyler Adams with Adri Mehmeti in midfield, and places Sullivan on the right. For my money, Hall provides the spark the squad craves.
Gomez’s list reflects his wish list, not a forecast of Mauricio Pochettino’s actual picks, though we’ve speculated on that already.
The Peru showdown kicks off at 4:30 p.m. ET.
