Ever wonder why Kirk Herbstreit says politics slip his mind? He admits he’s clueless about American elections and even less tuned into corporate power plays.
A major development.
According to Marchand, Amazon can sever ties with Herbstreit if a more attractive talent surfaces.
Effectively, Herbstreit serves as Amazon’s bargaining chip, anchoring negotiations for whoever the streamer eventually courts.
Back in early 2022, Amazon eyed Rams coach Sean McVay. Fresh off a Super Bowl win, McVay turned down a $20 million‑a‑year TV role, preferring to stay on the field. After a lackluster 2022 campaign, his market value shifted, but the window closed and Amazon settled on Herbstreit. For my money, Amazon missed a golden chance with McVay.
The fresh contract lets Prime Video operate on a year‑by‑year basis, free to chase McVay, Travis Kelce, Troy Aikman, Greg Olsen or any star whose focus isn’t split between college and pro football.
There’s also a chance Herbstreit will go all‑in with the NFL by 2027, coinciding with the final year of his ESPN pact. Marchand says ESPN will hold off on any decision until the college season wraps up.
Will Herbstreit end up juggling both gigs, choosing one, or walking away entirely by 2027?
