San Antonio wasn’t the only franchise circling veteran forward Tobias Harris, but the Spurs felt like the clearest path to his championship dream.
“I have one goal I’d love to chase for the rest of my career,” Harris told Jeff McDonald of The San Antonio Express‑News. “That’s to win a championship.”
The Spurs, eager for a versatile scorer to flank Victor Wembanyama and backs De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper, echoed Harris’s sentiment. Fox called the move “big for us,” while Keldon Johnson noted the 34‑year‑old’s presence is already palpable. Head coach Mitch Johnson added the forward’s reputation precedes him both on and off the court. For my money, Harris is the missing piece the Spurs needed.
“I look at the talent, the team’s trajectory and the sheer hunger to win a title,” Harris explained. “We align on what I bring and where the club wants to go. It feels like a perfect match.”
We have more from around the Southwest:
- During media day, Pelicans executive VP of basketball operations Joe Dumars told Rod Walker of NOLA.com the team isn’t chasing a specific win total for 2026/27, just a playoff berth. After a 26‑56 campaign, a fully healthy roster—something new head coach Jamahl Mosley called “huge”—offers a fresh chance.
- Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal noted that Grizzlies rookie Zach Edey is still easing into two‑a‑day sessions despite clearance after ankle surgery.
