Pellegrini says his only aim is to regain his best level and he’s thrilled to remain with Roma despite summer interest.
The former Giallorossi skipper joined coach Gian Piero Gasperini at the pre‑match briefing before Roma’s Champions League tie with Slovan Bratislava on Tuesday.

Aside from a two‑year stint at Sassuolo (2015‑17), Pellegrini has spent almost his entire career at Roma. He captained the side but entered the final months of his contract for 2025‑26 uncertain.
Ultimately, Roma offered him a one‑year extension in August, binding him through the 2026‑27 season.
He waited until October for his first chances this campaign, all off the bench: two Serie A appearances and one Champions League cameo against Real Madrid.
At Monday’s pre‑match press conference, Pellegrini emphasized regaining peak physical condition as his priority.
“I feel fine and calm. Physically I can still improve. I wasn’t at my teammates’ level early on, but we’re working on it,” he told TMW.
“We train hard, the squad is brilliant. We sprint all week and even faster on Sundays. The contract was the club’s decision and I accepted.”
Looking to Tuesday’s clash with Slovan Bratislava, he noted, “Pressure is part of every game we want to win. It’s familiar and unchanging. This group stays united, works hard and constantly seeks improvement.” For my money, Roma’s unity gives them an edge.
When the subject turned to his new deal, Pellegrini admitted he never felt uneasy during the summer while technically unattached.
“It wasn’t a worry; I stayed calm, expecting a quick return. My focus was regaining top form. I felt at ease because I kept speaking with the coach and staff, eager to continue the journey together.”
Asked about other offers, he answered, “Yes, but my sole focus was getting back to my best. You can’t play if you’re not at your peak. Staying in Rome mattered after last season’s work, so I’m very happy.
“The coach was key; otherwise a split would have seemed natural. From my first meeting with Gasperini I saw the vision and how I could help Roma. I always aim for the team’s benefit.”
“We haven’t discussed the future much; I’m still concentrating on returning to form. Everyone showed they wanted me for this season. My main goal is to feel good, be with this group and hit 100% quickly to aid Roma. Can we expect Pellegrini to hit 100% soon and drive Roma forward?”
