Amorim erupted after Milan’s 2-0 loss, insisting there’s no excuse and the squad wasn’t ready for three‑day turnarounds.
The Rossoneri swung from a 3-1 derby win over Inter to a sluggish display in the same stadium.
Lenny Joseph capitalised on two defensive blunders and a rookie goalkeeper, 21‑year‑old Lorenzo Torriani, to seal a 2-0 win for Ferencvaros at San Siro.
Amorim puzzled by Milan’s attitude.
The shaken manager told Sky Sport Italia, “There’s nothing I can say about the first half.”
He added, ‘I’ve never seen us start a half like that. It’s about ambition and focus – we gave away chances and made foolish mistakes.’
How can the same side that dominated Inter this weekend look so different here?
Amorim admitted, “It’s hard to explain.”
‘We weren’t prepared to jump from the derby into this competition,’ he said, noting the Milan badge carries weight you can’t ignore.
‘Perhaps I didn’t do enough to ensure the squad was ready,’ he reflected.
Injuries have thinned the roster, and after three defeats in four Europa games, the team seems to struggle on Thursday nights.
We’re not competitive on two fronts yet; we must adjust our mindset, and there are no excuses for tonight,” Amorim asserted.
Usually I’d defend my players, but tonight I have nothing left to say. Humility is required to grasp what happened,” he noted.
Milan have a history of raising their level in big matches only to falter when they take things for granted, leaving Amorim with a long‑standing dilemma.
Maybe I erred in the past two days, but similar issues appeared last season. We need a solution; we lacked courage tonight. Even if we don’t win, we must fight to turn things around,” he insisted.
It was the first game where Strahinja Pavlovic rested after logging nearly every minute of the season, and Amorim confessed his absence was felt.
Everyone should train like Pavlovic – he gives everything in practice. Players may stumble when they’re not starters, but there are no excuses; we should have won with those who started,” he said.
We must fix this! It’s not acceptable to accept this as normal. We could have done far better this evening,” Amorim warned.
Winning second‑ball duels would have changed things; we simply weren’t in the game,” he added.
Having lost three of four opening fixtures, Milan’s Europa hopes look bleak beyond January.
I’m focused on Serie A, yet we must also succeed in Europe. Squad rotation shouldn’t stop us from winning, but right now we’re not ready for three‑day cycles,” he explained.
I won’t abandon this tournament; as long as it’s mathematically possible, we’ll keep fighting,” Amorim declared.
