With just two days left before the Europa League tie at the Vélodrome, Olympiacos announced it will cancel supporters’ tickets and issue refunds, citing tense protests by students.
Visitor tickets are expected to remain unsold Thursday night at the Vélodrome. Ahead of the Olympiacos‑OM clash, the Greek side said it will void fans’ passes and reimburse them, responding to a possible French ban amid ongoing student demonstrations that are already straining police resources.
The club wrote that authorities deem adequate security impossible for Olympiacos fans traveling to Marseille. Insufficient monitoring, they warn, would inevitably spark serious public disorder. The measure, they argue, is proportionate to safeguarding order under these exceptional circumstances.
All tickets will be refunded shortly; will fans find other ways to support the side?
Consequently, Olympiacos will fully reimburse fans in the coming days, covering both €49 first‑class seats and €15 visitor tickets. In my view, the club acted responsibly given the volatility.
RMC Sport reports the match was rated a maximum 5/5 risk by the national anti‑hooliganism unit. Around 200 Greek supporters identify with hooligan groups, and ties exist between Marseille’s Commando Ultra 84 and rivals AEK Athens fans, heightening concerns over the fixture.
