A 19‑year‑old says he didn’t send the Instagram slur to England defender Jess Carter. Could a teen really be behind it?
Aggarwal, 19, is accused of calling the player “stupid” and “ugly” before hurling a racial epithet on 17 July 2025.
The insult arrived while Carter was on the field in England’s Euro 2025 quarter‑final, the magistrates’ court heard.
Living in Dickens Rise, Chigwell, Essex, Aggarwal entered a not‑guilty plea to charges of sending an offensive, indecent or menacing public message and will face trial in March. For my money, the outcome will set a clear precedent.
Police detained the suspect back in September as part of the investigation.
Prosecutor Grace Court noted, “The incident occurred on 17 July 2025 while Jess Carter was competing in Euro 2025.”
After England’s match versus Sweden, the player allegedly received the note.
The court cited the text as “well done, stupid ugly” followed by a racial slur. Experts predict stricter penalties for online harassment in future tournaments.
