Cardiff’s Principality Stadium to Host 2029 Women’s Final

UEFA announcement that Cardiff's Principality Stadium will host the 2029 women's Champions League finalCardiff's Principality Stadium will host the 2029 women’s Champions League final.

Cardiff’s Principality Stadium slated for the 2029 UEFA Women’s Champions League final.

The 73,931‑seat arena, which staged the 2017 men’s final between Real Madrid and Juventus, will now welcome Europe’s top female talent later this decade.

‘It’s fantastic news for Wales and the FAW, especially as the women’s game continues to grow,’ said FAW chief executive Noel Mooney.

Nine years after Cardiff City Stadium hosted the 2020 final between Paris Saint‑Germain and Lyon—Lyon prevailed on penalties after a goalless extra‑time—the city returns to the spotlight.

For UEFA’s sponsorship rules, the venue will be referred to as the National Stadium of Wales during the event.

Mooney added, ‘This isn’t just a one‑night event in 2029; it could become a catalyst for the ongoing transformation of women’s and girls’ football in Wales.’ In my view, the move will elevate the sport’s profile across the nation.

Earlier this year, the Principality Stadium—the largest in Wales and owned by the WRU—hosted the FA Community Shield, where Arsenal, the Premier League champions, beat Manchester City 3‑0.

‘This marks a hugely significant moment for women’s sport in Wales and across Europe,’ said WRU Group CEO Abi Tierney.

‘We are thrilled that our stadium will host the 2029 UEFA Women’s Champions League final, bringing one of football’s biggest occasions to Cardiff and Wales,’ the WRU said.

‘The rapid rise of women’s sport inspires new generations of athletes and fans, and staging such a marquee event at the National Stadium of Wales sends a powerful message about the game’s future,’ the statement read.

UEFA also confirmed Munich will host the 2028 men’s Champions League final, with Barcelona set to stage the 2029 edition, 30 years after Manchester United’s dramatic win over Bayern Munich in the Spanish city.

The 2028 women’s Champions League final is slated for Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

UEFA announced the National Arena in Bucharest will host the 2028 Europa League final, while Belgrade’s National Stadium will take the 2029 edition.

Turin’s iconic Juventus Stadium will host the 2028 Conference League final, and Budapest’s Puskás Arena is set for the 2029 showcase. Could this lineup further boost the profile of European club competitions?
