Alessia Russo Wins England Women’s Player of the Year

Alessia Russo named England women's player of the year.Alessia Russo, 27, repeats as England’s women’s player of the year after a standout season.

Alessia Russo, England’s forward, clinches the women’s player of the year honor.

At 27, Russo repeats her triumph, having featured in every one of the ten 2025‑26 matches and netting five times.

She started nine outings, covering all six of England’s 2027 World Cup qualifying fixtures.

Last week she added the third strike in England’s 3‑1 win over Greece in the play‑off semi‑final first leg, with the return set for Tuesday at Leicester’s King Power Stadium.

Arsenal’s Russo edged Chelsea’s Lucy Bronze and Hannah Hampton for the fan‑voted prize. For my money, her consistency outshines theirs.

“Receiving this award feels special, especially coming straight from the fans. I’m incredibly grateful for their support,” Russo said.

She joins 30 nominees for the women’s Ballon d’Or, with Alex Greenwood the sole other English name on the list. Will she lift the Ballon d’Or for England next year?
