The NFL quarterback and Pro Bowler in 2023, Tagovailoa and head coach Mike McDaniel appeared to be an all-star relationship. However, things have turned up in the past two years for Miami. Among them, Tagovailoa’s injuries increased and his game waned.
In 2025, he threw for a career-worst 15 interceptions despite playing in only 14 games due to the benching of McDaniel, who is now also the offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Chargers.
Tagovailoa was released this offseason, giving new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan a staggering $99.2 million in dead money — a false NFL record.
As the Dolphins rebuild, Paul hasn’t changed his opinion of Tagovailoa after playing with him the past two seasons.
“I know he’ll bounce back from what he was last year and he’ll do his thing there,” Paul said. “So, I’m waiting to see it. Waiting to see him bounce back. Definitely. That’s all it is. That’s all it is. It’s just a bounce back. Yeah.”
Paul is also a fan of his new quarterback, Malik Willis.
Willis appeared to be a bust with the Tennessee Titans and rewrote the narrative of his career over the last few years with the Green Bay Packers. He became one of the top free agents last season and joined the Dolphins.
“Malik, no doubt he’s a baller,” Paul said, “and I think that’s one of the best-kept secrets in the NFL right now.”
Paul is confident in his predictions and believes that it will “surprise everyone what he does this year.”
Paul, Willis and a largely rebuilt roster aren’t picked by most to be winners in 2026, but the offensive line thinks Miami will shake things up.
Said Paul: “Just expect a team that’s going to go out and shock people.”
