Derek Carr: Many NFL teams reached out, but would take a "special situation" to retire

Carr added that any comeback would have to be with a Super Bowl contender, a warning he had made long before free agency began. He added that his career is likely over and that his focus is on his children.

“I think I’m just at the point where I just want to win, man,” Carr said. “I want to win, and I want to do these things. If I were to do that, it would have to be a special team that could lose someone or need someone. Even then, it’s not guaranteed. I like to hang out with my wife, hang out with my kids and try to be good at golf. It would take a special contract, but I’m always practicing when they’re practicing. 18, so I have to keep practicing, I’ll be fit and ready, but probably I won’t just coach the kids my, that’s for sure.

A second-round pick in 2014 by Oakland, Carr spent nine seasons with the Raiders and his final two campaigns with the New Orleans Saints. He retired last season.

After spending a year in football, Carr’s career is likely over. However, if a devastating injury strikes a starter sometime in the next five months, he will likely still get a call from a team to gauge his interest in a return.
