The Chiefs release OT Jawaan Taylor and free up about $20 million in cap space for the new league year

The Kansas City Chiefs’ progress toward meeting the salary cap continues.

The Chiefs are releasing right tackle Jawaan Taylor, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday, according to sources briefed on the decision.

The move creates needed cap space. The release will save the Chiefs a whopping $20 million in cap space with 7,391 dead money, per Over The Cap .

The Chiefs signed Taylor in 2023 as the centerpiece of their offensive line rebuild during that juncture, signing him to a four-year, $80 million deal. Andy Reid initially indicated that the expensive blocker would take Patrick Mahomes’ blindside spot, despite rarely playing left tackle in his career. That decision was soon vacated, and Taylor spent the final three seasons as the Chiefs’ starting right tackle.

He’s been a talented starter over the years and has mostly been in the outfield, but his shutout started to drop off significantly in 2025 and the glaring penalty trouble continues.
