The new addition may remind Jets fans less of Joe Namath and more of Sam Darnold or Ryan Fitzpatrick, the two Jets starters who last wore a white helmet with a white face mask in one game each in 2016 and 2018. This relatively unique bucket was their standard helmet, but the green face masks were swapped out in favor of white face masks.
This time around, the Jets are taking their simpler (and sleeker) standard helmet design, replacing the white decals and stripes with green, creating an icy alternative look that’s likely to gain quick approval from the team’s fan base and beyond before their Week 2 debut.
New York has undergone several aesthetic changes in recent years, first ditching its traditional look worn since the late 1990s for a modern uniform that featured the city name on the chest and tapered stripes running from the center of the chest through the shoulder pads in 2019. Thanks to the overwhelming popularity of full-length “Sack to the J” uniforms, the classic uniforms. 2024 and added an all-black kit to complete his wardrobe, giving New York options that included two helmets (a primary green shell and a second black helmet), three jerseys and three sets of pants.
The Jets’ new white helmet gives them an extra piece of headgear, creating the option for the team to go full monochromatic in white, green or black.
