Now the Spanish giants have turned to another Bayern talent: 18‑year‑old midfielder Lennart Karl. He burst onto the scene last season, stepping into Jamal Musiala’s void after the German’s World Club Cup injury. Karl featured in 40 matches, netting nine goals and handing out eight assists under Vincent Kompany’s guidance.
His form earned a call from Julian Nagelsmann for the World Cup, but a muscle strain in a national‑team training session forced him out before his debut.
In my view, Madrid’s chase feels overly optimistic given Bayern’s tight grip. Karl’s contract runs until 2029, and the Bavarians are already pushing for an early renewal to keep the prodigy at the club.
In January Karl hinted he dreams of wearing Real’s white shirt, calling Bayern “a very, very big club” and saying Madrid is “the club of my dreams.” He later walked back, apologising for the remarks.
Bayern’s chief Max Eberl brushed the saga aside, stressing the player is happy, performing well and fully committed to the Bavarians. Will Bayern finally let the prodigy go?
