From Berlin’s lower leagues to European finals, Scherhant’s rise has been anything but ordinary.
From Berlin’s modest pitches to the Europa League final, the direct winger has surged into the spotlight, now catching Jürgen Klopp’s attention for a senior Germany debut.

Data correct as of 28 September 2026.
Age: 23 (born 10 November 2002) Club: Freiburg Position: Winger/forward Country: Germany (uncapped at senior level, two U21 caps)
Scherhant came of age in Berlin’s football scene, playing for Viktoria Berlin, Tennis Borussia and Berliner SC before joining Hertha’s academy shortly before his 18th birthday. He soon made up for lost time, contributing 16 goals and eight assists in his first season with the reserves, which earned him a professional contract in June 2022. A full Bundesliga debut against Eintracht Frankfurt would follow that August.

After Hertha’s 2023 drop, the forward became a Bundesliga 2 regular, playing every one of the 34 matches in 2024/25 and netting seven goals. Freiburg then signed him for the top tier in summer 2025, leaving Berlin with 78 first‑team appearances and 12 goals.
In his debut Black Forest season he tallied five goals across 31 league games and added 12 Europa League outings as Freiburg marched to the final. He has opened 2026/27 with a goal and three assists in four matches, helping Julian Schuster’s side amass ten of a possible twelve points.
Two days after his maiden Germany call‑up, Scherhant struck and set up Yuito Suzuki’s equaliser in a 2‑2 draw with Frankfurt in mid‑September, earning Man of the Match against Die Adler and capping a memorable month.

Having featured for Germany’s U‑20 and U‑21 sides, the youngster earned a place in Klopp’s squad for the Nations League ties with Serbia and Greece in early October.
Plays a bit like: Karim Adeyemi
Pace, direct runs and a knack for taking on defenders give Scherhant shades of former Dortmund star Adeyemi. For my money, his blend of speed and skill could make him a key asset for Germany.
Whether hugging the flank or cutting inside, he adds a striker’s instinct to his wing work, becoming especially deadly on the break with perfectly timed runs behind defenses.
