When Hafley left for Green Bay, so did Duggan, first as a defensive end in 2024 and then as the LB coach last season.
So it’s only fitting that Hafley takes his right-hand man with him when he takes on the first coaching role of his NFL career.
Their defensive concepts should be neatly aligned at this point, though the two have a tough task ahead of them.
Miami has built a reputation, fair or unfair, for being soft in recent years, and it showed in the 2025 season when the Dolphins finished in the bottom third of the league in both points and yards allowed. The Dolphins secondary needs an almost complete overhaul — Miami was one of 10 teams with single-digit interceptions — as most of the team’s corners are set to hit free throws anyway, and the passing game will also require an influx of depth.
However the roster shakes out, Duggan will be expected to step into his biggest coaching opportunity yet and make the most of it.
