Packers' Micah Parsons says he also had meniscus surgery, will miss the start of the season

Parsons had previously said he expected to miss the start of the season, Wednesday’s comments confirm that stance, and he appears likely to start the season on the PUP list and be held out for the first four games of the regular season. Still, his timeline seems to be on track.

“It was my fifth month on May 29, so very happy with where we are and the direction I’m going. Obviously I’ve got four more months to go,” Parsons said. “Just started running on AlterG [treadmill] the past two weeks, so I’m making progress there.”

While many players push for an early return from injury, Parsons is playing the long game, knowing that at 27 years old, he still has a long career ahead of him and doesn’t want anything that could cause his injury to linger further into the season.

“The goal for me is to finish the season … the goal has always been the playoffs,” he said, emphasizing that he’s not focused on how soon he can return, via ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.

The Packers open the season against the Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
