Antonio Conte says he’s not in any advanced talks with a club, refuting claims of United negotiations.
La Repubblica reported Thursday that Conte met United’s board about replacing Michael Carrick after Wednesday’s 4-1 loss to Como.
The story added the ex‑Chelsea boss insisted on full control of transfers and wanted to bring his own staff to Old Trafford.
“My name pops up with many clubs, but no advanced negotiations are underway,” Conte posted on Instagram.
“I’ve seen reports of financial demands and claims I want total control, plus comments on my strong personality – all of which are baseless,” he wrote.
“If a real offer emerges, I’ll discuss terms with the club, respecting both sides’ needs and the style that defines my management,” he added.
Carrick’s position at Old Trafford looks shaky after a humiliating Champions League defeat to Cesc Fabregas’ Como side.
Former Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, Conte and ex‑Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann are all said to be eyeing the vacancy.
Having starred for Juventus and Italy, Conte is now a free agent after parting ways with Napoli last season – for my money, his next move will shape the Premier League.
He captured the Serie A crown in his debut season with Napoli and added a Supercoppa Italiana win in his final campaign.
The 57‑year‑old guided Chelsea to the Premier League title in 2016‑17 and then beat United in the FA Cup final the following year.
Conte returned to England in 2021, taking over from José Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur.
His spell in north London lasted just 16 months before he quit in March 2023, lambasting selfish players and the club’s culture – could we see him back in the Premier League soon?
