Can you believe the court finally settled the venue? Brazil’s justice system has now affirmed Maracanã as the stage for Boca’s clash with Vasco in the Sudamericana semifinals, and CONMEBOL has already briefed the Argentine side on logistics.
Vasco Da Gama vs. Boca to be played at Maracanã
After a flurry of appeals aiming to shift the tie to Rio, CONMEBOL confirmed the second leg will unfold in the iconic Brazilian arena.
Globo Esporte revealed the backstory: the Fla‑Flu duo appealed in Brasília on Tuesday, just hours after a Rio court favored Vasco. The tribunal’s president dismissed the case, citing lack of jurisdiction over the matter.
The judge handling the decision noted there’s no overriding public interest or essential service at stake. The match is set for Tuesday, 20 October, kicking off at 21:30.
Why Vasco pushed for the Maracanã venue
Vasco argued football must trump a scheduled basketball event, pointing to the Maracanã concession contract that gives official matches priority over other programmed activities. In my view, giving football precedence is the sensible choice.
The Brazilian side also highlighted backing from the Public Ministry and security agencies. Those points convinced the court to clear the stadium and allow ticket sales for the October 20 showdown.
