Barranquilla is polishing every detail ahead of the 2026 CONMEBOL Sudamericana final on November 21 at Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez.
Between Sept 29 and Oct 2, CONMEBOL officials returned for a technical inspection, checking progress on the expansion and renovation works and confirming key operational elements.
The delegation toured multiple stadium zones, scrutinising the upgrades slated for the championship match.
They also assessed entry points, operational areas and fan zones, as well as spaces for teams, media and other stakeholders.
The visit helped tighten coordination among the organizers, bringing together CONMEBOL, the Colombian Football Federation, Barranquilla’s mayoralty and the construction managers.
These works form part of a broader push to modernise the Metropolitano, ensuring it meets the standards required for South America’s premier club showdown.
In my view, Barranquilla’s relentless push positions the city as a marquee host once again.
