Independiente Santa Fe aims to end the Libertadores Women’s Cup on a high note after a 2-1 semifinal defeat to Corinthians left them out of the final.
Six games didn’t materialize, but the Leonas still have a goal: to keep a Colombian club on the Libertadores podium for the eleventh edition and to claim a fifth bronze medal.
Formas Íntimas (2009), América de Cali (2019, 2022) and Atlético Nacional (2023) are the Colombian clubs that have previously secured third place in the women’s Libertadores.
Olimpia, Santa Fe’s opponent for bronze
Coach Omar Ramírez’s squad now faces a tough bronze quest against Olimpia. The Paraguayan side eliminated Deportivo Cali and then edged Cruzeiro by the smallest margin.
While Olimpia has never stood on the podium, Independiente Santa Fe enters with a clear edge, boasting deeper experience in knockout stages and having just tested Corinthians. For my money, Santa Fe’s experience will tip the balance.
Olimpia features two familiar faces: Nairelis Gutiérrez, a former Leo, and Mariana Pion, who previously played in Colombia with Millonarios and Santa Fe.
