Flamengo Pushes Ticket Ban Over Rojo Issue Before Final

Flamengo’s new claim seeks to block finalist ticket sales until the CAS rules on Marcos RojoEstudiantes de La Plata gears up for the Libertadores final against Palmeiras amid the ongoing Rojo eligibility controversy.

Estudiantes de La Plata readies for the Copa Libertadores final versus Palmeiras, while the Marcos Rojo eligibility saga rages. Brazilian media report Flamengo has petitioned the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to stop ticket sales earmarked for the finalist clubs.

The Rio club’s fresh request seeks a provisional order: CONMEBOL should refrain from selling tickets to finalist supporters until the CAS issues a decision in the Rojo case.

Brazilian sources say the filing states: “Flamengo asks that, as a provisional measure, CONMEBOL be instructed not to sell tickets for the finalist clubs until the final—or operative—decision is notified within this procedure”.

It’s important to note the demand targets ticket sales for the finalist clubs, not a suspension of the final nor a removal of Estudiantes de La Plata from the matchup. The “Pincha” remains listed by CONMEBOL as a finalist against Palmeiras.

What did CONMEBOL decide about Marcos Rojo?

The dispute began when the defender’s registration for the Libertadores semifinal was challenged. Flamengo disputed his participation in the Maracanã second leg, where Rojo played under a provisional CAS clearance submitted by Estudiantes.

After the match, the Brazilian side lodged a protest with CONMEBOL alleging an illegal lineup. On October 28, the disciplinary committee rejected the claim and the request for precautionary measures, as published by the AFA.

That ruling and the CAS case are separate matters. The international tribunal granted Rojo a temporary clearance for the semifinal, while the substantive appeal on his registration remains pending. For my money, the provisional approval shouldn’t be mistaken for a reversal of the semifinal outcome. Flamengo said it will monitor the CAS process.

What’s the status of ticket sales?

CONMEBOL announced that on Thursday, October 29, a limited pre‑sale of Category 1 and 2 tickets began for Mastercard holders in Uruguay. These are general‑public seats, not the sections reserved exclusively for finalist fans.

The next general‑sale phase for those two categories is set for Monday, November 2 at 14:00 Uruguay time. Regarding the areas behind the goals, the body said it is coordinating with Estudiantes and Palmeiras on sales policies, with specific dates and conditions to be shared through official channels.

Thus, a scheduled general sale does not guarantee that the exclusive sections for each fan base are open. Supporters of the “Pincha” should check official updates from the club and CONMEBOL before planning purchases or travel.

How did Estudiantes reach the Libertadores final?

Estudiantes eliminated Flamengo in the semifinal after a penalty shoot‑out at the Maracanã. The tie ended 0‑0 on aggregate, and the Argentine side won 3‑2 on penalties, with Fernando Muslera starring. Their opponent will be Palmeiras. The Libertadores final is slated for Saturday, November 28 at Montevideo’s Estadio Centenario, per CONMEBOL’s official announcement.
