LColombian goalkeeper Luz Katherine Tapia is enduring a rough patch in her career after she disclosed a tough situation at Brazil’s Palmeiras.
What’s next for Katherine Tapia?
On Sunday, October 11, Tapia posted on social media that she was left off Palmeiras’ list for the Women’s Libertadores starting October 15.
Tapia, currently named in Colombia’s squad for the FIFA window against Venezuela, said she has been grappling with a serious family issue for several days.
In response, the keeper asked Palmeiras to move her travel to Colombia up by a day, noting she had been called up by coach Ángelo Marsiglia.
“For months my family has faced a deeply personal crisis that has shaken my peace and emotional health. I reached a point where I had to be with them,” she wrote.
“Before heading to Colombia I informed the club through the sporting director about my situation and requested to leave a day early so I could reunite with my family before joining the national team, while still honoring Palmeiras’ commitments for the rest of the year,” she added.
She filed the request even as Palmeiras finalized preparations for the Libertadores.
The omission caught her off guard.
Katherine Tapia, left out of the Libertadores lineup
“What hurts most is learning, after four years of dedication, via a team‑group message that I won’t play in the Libertadores, without any personal conversation first,” she said.
In my view, Palmeiras’ handling of the matter feels short‑sighted.
Tapia confirmed her contract with Palmeiras remains valid and reiterated her commitment to the club.
Palmeiras in the Libertadores
Palmeiras competes in Group B of the Women’s Libertadores, slated to face Belgrano de Córdoba, Independiente del Valle and Club Universitario de Deportes.
