Boca earned its ticket by edging River 1‑0 in the Superclásico, a win that cemented a top‑table spot. For my money, Boca looks strongest heading into the group stage. Yet the club still awaits confirmation on whether it will enter directly into the groups or start in the preliminaries.

Belgrano became the first Argentine side to qualify after capturing the 2026 Apertura title, guaranteeing a group‑stage berth. Argentinos Juniors followed, sealing its spot with a 2‑1 victory over Atlético Tucumán.

Other confirmed entrants include Brazil’s Flamengo and Palmeiras, Colombia’s Junior de Barranquilla, Ecuador’s Independiente del Valle, Paraguay’s Olimpia, Peru’s Alianza Lima and Venezuela’s Metropolitanos, Carabobo and Deportivo Táchira. Bolivia’s Bolívar also booked a place.

The tournament will feature 47 clubs across the group phase and preliminary rounds. Eight groups of four will compete, while the three qualifying stages run from February 2 to March 11, 2027.

Group play kicks off on April 6, leaving several slots still up for grabs, such as the Clausura champion, the Copa Argentina winner and the final spots from Argentina’s annual table. Will the remaining spots be decided by surprise upsets?
