Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stopped short of discussing his business as of Monday after a dismal 27-17 home loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
“We have options and one of the biggest choices is whether or not to do it,” Jones said of the trade, via the team’s official website. “You ask, do this tonight, if it says or loses tonight [change anything]i don’t know I don’t know. We might see something we should do despite tonight.
“The answer to your question? No, there’s no business now. We’d have to make something happen tomorrow. I want to be absolutely clear. But there’s one thing I can do. Without question, there’s one thing I can do. There’s not one thing, but there’s one thing I can do, and I’m inclined to do it.”
In his pregame press conference, the Cowboys owner hinted that a trade was already on the way, saying at the time that “We’ve made one. We could possibly make two more.”
It’s unclear if that “done” trade was possibly contingent on the Cowboys winning on Monday night. The blowout loss to the Cardinals, where they were outplayed on both sides of the ball by a hungrier, more prepared team, may have Jones rethinking.
However, if Dallas does something on Tuesday before the trade deadline, they will be buyers, not sellers.
“No, not at all,” Jones said. “I really like our balls. I don’t like what’s going on with the balls and the balls, but I like them.”
The Cowboys were overrun by an Arizona club that ran through their defense like hot butter. The Cards’ defense did enough to bother Dak Prescott, forcing three turnovers and making seemingly every play.
Getting such a convincing outplay by another three-game winning team at home could make Jones reconsider any moves before the 4:00 PM ET trade deadline.
“You can be sure that, at least in my mind, all of those considerations are there,” Jones said. “It was there before this game. It was there when we started the season about whether you make a trade or not. . . . We either have to [s—-] or leave the tub tomorrow afternoon.”
The Cowboys went 3-5-1 on the season. They have a bye in week 10.
