England women’s boss Sarina Wiegman inks two-year extension

England women's coach Sarina Wiegman signs two‑year extensionSarina Wiegman signs a two‑year extension, keeping her at the helm of the Lionesses.

England boss Sarina Wiegman has secured a two‑year extension with the Lionesses.

Her old contract would have ended after next summer’s World Cup; the fresh deal now stretches to the close of Euro 2029.

Wiegman steered England to back‑to‑back Euro crowns, beating Spain in the 2025 final.

That win made the Lionesses the first England side, male or female, to claim a major trophy abroad.

I’m thrilled to keep working with this group; no job in football could be better,” Wiegman said. For my money, staying with this squad is a masterstroke.

Every day I’m energized by the FA’s world‑class setup and the countless people pushing England teams and the sport’s growth.

Last week England hammered Greece 8‑1 on aggregate, booking a spot in the play‑off second round against Ukraine.

If they prevail over Ukraine, the Lionesses will head to Brazil for next summer’s World Cup.

The World Cup dominates my mind; I’m focused on unlocking this squad’s potential for years ahead,” Wiegman added.

Securing our Brazil spot is vital, and we hope to give the nation another unforgettable summer.

Taking over from Phil Neville in September 2021, Wiegman led the Lionesses to their inaugural major trophy at Euro 2022, edging Germany 2‑1 at Wembley.

The team later made the 2023 World Cup final in Australia, falling 1‑0 to Spain.

Her 2025 Euro final appearance marked the first time any manager, male or female, reached five straight major finals, after guiding the Netherlands to Euro 2017 glory and a 2019 World Cup runner‑up finish.

Winning Euro 2025 made Wiegman only the second coach, after Germany’s Christina Theune, to claim three straight European titles.

FA chief Mark Bullingham called Wiegman an “incredible coach with an unmatched record in major tournaments.”

We’ll cherish the trophies and thrills she’s delivered, yet she’s already focused on what lies ahead,” Bullingham added.

No one is better suited to steer the Lionesses through the next two campaigns.

Sarina’s influence on English football is massive, inspiring countless across the sport. With much still to achieve in the women’s game, she’ll be key to that progress. Will she guide England to another historic triumph?
