USOPC Mulls Selling Team USA Commercial Stake

USOPC may sell a slice of Team USA’s commercial rights to private investors.

The committee announced it is weighing several commercial models to boost resources for its mission.

The plan would create a fresh entity named United States Olympic and Paralympic Ventures.

This move arrives as the U.S. readies to host the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Games and the 2034 Utah Winter Games.

USOPC currently partners commercially with the LA 2028 Organising Committee under a deal that ends after the Games.

Sky News and Reuters first reported that the body is discussing multiple options.

Board minutes note “encouraging feedback” from early talks with potential investors, who largely endorsed the USOPV vision.

In a statement, the nonprofit USOPC said the next decade offers an unprecedented chance for Team USA and the Olympic‑Paralympic movement.

It added that evaluating diverse commercial models is part of its duty to maximize opportunities for athletes and national governing bodies.

The organization said ongoing talks with athlete and NGB leaders will continue, and any route will safeguard its mission and leadership.

“This is a moment of real momentum for Team USA,” the committee declared, noting that with LA28 and Utah 2034 on home soil, the revenue pie will expand – for my money, this could reshape U.S. sport financing.

When asked about private‑equity interest, CEO Sarah Hirschland told Sportico, “Our responsibility is to look at all options, and I’d say we are doing that,” addressing you directly.

The announcement lands as football circles clash over FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s failed bid to sell World Cup stakes to private investors, fueling backlash.

“Our support for Team USA athletes and governing bodies drives us,” Hirschland said, adding, “Will this model set a template for other national committees?”
