USA Set to Host Copa América 2028, Sources Say

Report says the United States may host Copa América 2028, with Ecuador and Argentina ruled out as hosts.La Copa América 2028 could be back in the United States.

The Copa América 2028 is slated to return to the United States. British daily The Times says the North American nation will stage the premier South American national‑team tournament, four years after hosting the 2024 edition.

According to the paper, CONMEBOL has apparently chosen the U.S. again, yet the South American federation has not issued a formal venue announcement.

The United States previously hosted the Copa América Centenario in 2016 and the 2024 tournament, which saw Argentina lift the trophy after beating Colombia in a Miami final.

Talk of a repeat venue gained momentum recently. Cooperation between CONMEBOL and CONCACAF deepened during the 2024 edition, which featured all ten South American sides alongside six CONCACAF representatives.

Scheduling will be a headache, as the 2028 Copa América lands in the same year as the Los Angeles Olympics. Organisers must carve out a suitable window, and they might even skip Los Angeles among the host cities. For my money, finding a clash‑free slot will prove the toughest hurdle.

There’s also talk of tweaking the competition’s format. One proposal floated is expanding the field to 20 national teams, though CONMEBOL has not verified that change.

Will the tournament adopt the larger 20‑team roster and settle on a calendar that avoids the Olympic clash?
