United States could host the Copa América in 2028, according to The Times. The tournament would again bring together CONMEBOL and CONCACAF nations, though no official venue has been confirmed.

United States near a second Copa América staging

It would mark the third time the nation stages the event, following the 2016 and 2024 editions, and the second in a row. So far, United States remains the only non‑CONMEBOL host of the Copa América.

Talks also suggest expanding the roster from 16 to 20 teams, giving more slots to CONCACAF sides. In 2024, the ten South American teams were joined by six invitees: United States, Mexico, Canada, Panama, Costa Rica and Jamaica. Those CONCACAF representatives earned their spots via the League of Nations under the inter‑confederation agreement. For my money, the expansion would boost the competition’s appeal.

Scheduling could prove tricky, as Los Angeles will host the 2028 Olympic Games. The previous Copa América ran from June 20 to July 14; matching that window would require careful coordination with the Olympics.
