Michael Penix Jr. Atlanta Falcons quarterback will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a partially torn ACL suffered in Sunday’s loss to the Carolina Panthers, the team announced Wednesday.
Penix was placed on injured reserve, which sidelines a player a minimum of four games, earlier this week as the Falcons said they were “working through the medical process to determine the severity of the injury.”
Wednesday’s news means Penix’s second NFL season ends after nine games. Penix completed 60.1% of his passes for 1,982 yards with nine touchdowns and three interceptions in his nine starts.
Veteran Kirk Cousins, who signed a four-year, $180 million contract with Atlanta in the 2024 offseason, is set to take over under center for the Falcons.
Around The NFL will have more on this news soon.
