Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. suffered a knee injury in the second half of Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
Penix is officially doubtful to return.
Penix fell short when he was hit hard on an incomplete pass to David Sills on third down midway through the third quarter. Penix was in obvious discomfort after the play and threw his helmet in frustration as he was attended to by the Falcons media staff.
Penix, however, was able to walk off the field under his own power, but was later seen on the bench without a helmet as backup Kirk Cousins took over for Atlanta.
Penix is an efficient 13 of 16 passing for 175 yards on the day. Atlanta led 21-16 when he got hurt.
