Who wouldn’t love to own a piece of racing history? McLaren is releasing five F1 cars from its heritage vault, among them two from Senna’s 1991 championship and the machine Brad Pitt drove for the hit F1 film.
The sale will be handled by specialist broker Tom Hartley Jr., the same firm that placed Bernie Ecclestone’s Grand Prix fleet on the market, with McLaren retaining ownership until now.
Included are:
- Two 1991 McLaren MP4/6As (chassis 04 and 07) from Senna’s third and final title year. Both were tested by Senna and raced by teammate Gerhard Berger.
- The 2012 MP4/27A (chassis 01) from Lewis Hamilton’s last season with McLaren. Jenson Button claimed three victories that year, while Hamilton secured four.
- In 2021 the MCL35M (chassis 01) saw Lando Norris finish third at Monaco in a one‑off Gulf livery and helped McLaren achieve a 1‑2 at Monza, with Daniel Ricciardo taking the team’s first win since 2012.
- The 2023 MCL37A (chassis 03), driven by Norris and Oscar Piastri, also featured Brad Pitt on the Circuit of the Americas. Expect its resale value to soar as collectors scramble.
The 2023 MCL37A tops the list as the newest race‑driven McLaren ever offered to a private collector, Hartley confirms.
We’re parting with these iconic machines because letting them gather dust does them no justice,” McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said. “In my view, releasing these legends revitalizes the brand.”
They were built for speed and competition, and we want them back on track where they belong. Keeping them active is the best way to preserve our legacy.
Prices remain undisclosed, though estimates put the total value between £25 million and $50 million. Unlike Ecclestone’s batch, each car may find a separate buyer.
Hartley added, “All five could be sold individually, with no rush. Our priority—and McLaren’s—is to place them in the right hands.”
McLaren will prep each chassis before handing it over to its new owner.
