The Eagles and Jets are addressing needs before the Nov. 4 trade deadline.
Philadelphia is trading fourth-year receiver John Metchie III and a 2027 sixth-round pick to New York for nickelback Michael Carter II and a 2027 seventh-round pick, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday, according to sources.
Carter, a reliable fixture in the Jets’ secondary for five seasons, has played in five games this year and returned last week against Cincinnati after missing three games with a concussion.
To leave the 1-7 Jets for the reigning Super Bowl champions, Carter agreed to spend $5 million guaranteed against injuries in the 2026 contract year, Rapoport said. The defensive back has two years remaining on the three-year extension he signed in 2024.
In Philly, Carter can fill a void on defense for Adoree’ Jackson, who suffered a concussion in Week 8 and struggled in his first season with the Eagles. Carter’s presence gives defensive coordinator Vic Fangio more flexibility in the secondary as the Eagles (6-2) enter the home stretch of the 2025 campaign.
