Chargers fire offensive coordinator Greg Roman after last playoff loss

In the last two postseason games for the Los Angeles Chargers, they have scored just one offensive touchdown.

Following the team’s most recent postseason loss, the Chargers have fired offensive coordinator Greg Roman, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo reported Tuesday.

The Chargers also fired offensive line coach Mike Devlin, Per Rapoport, Pelissero and Garafolo.

The team later confirmed the news.

Roman, 53, was LA’s OC the last two seasons, having joined Jim Harbaugh when he became head coach for the 2024 franchise. It was the second Harbaugh-Roman season after the two were together with the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-14.

The Chargers offense was 12th in yards last season, but 20th in points.

Roman had to deal with a lot of injuries, most notably the season-long absence of standout offensive tackle Rashawn Slater and the subsequent loss of the team’s other starting tackle, Joe Alt. All season, the Chargers had to reshuffle their offensive line due to injuries while also dealing with the season-ending losses of quarterback Najee Harris and rookie Omarion Hampton, who played in just nine games due to injury issues.

Quarterback Justin Herbert didn’t miss any action, but dealt with a broken non-throwing hand.

Critics will still point out that Roman’s offense is stagnant, hasn’t adjusted and he hasn’t been able to orchestrate open receivers – much of the same criticism that followed him during his time with John Harbaugh as Baltimore Ravens OC from 2019-2022.
