At the NFL’s annual meeting in Phoenix last week, coach Matt LaFleur acknowledged some players were unhappy with their role in his offense in 2025, a season that ended disappointingly when the Packers fell to the Chicago Bears on Wild Card weekend. While he didn’t directly name Wicks, Green Bay’s willingness to send him to Philadelphia in exchange for a couple of Day 3 picks suggests it might be time for both sides to move on, especially after Wicks had a career-low in 2025 (30 catches, 332 yards, two touchdowns).
Philadelphia’s acquisition of Wicks marks the third time in the last three years that the Eagles have traded receivers before the start of the upcoming season. In August 2024, Roseman added former first-round pick Jahan Dotson in a trade, and nearly a year later, Eagles general manager John Metchie III was acquired in a budget deal with the Houston Texans.
Neither is currently listed, leaving room for another addition.
Wicks joins a receiving corps in Philadelphia headlined by star AJ Brown, whose name has been floated in trade talks for months. Also in the room are DeVonta Smith and veteran Hollywood Brown.
The Eagles’ trade for Wicks doesn’t indicate a Brown deal is imminent, but gives them some insurance at the position ahead of the draft. Wicks, meanwhile, finds a fresh start and a new opportunity in Philadelphia, where the Eagles have their own hooks to work out of their offense under new coordinator Sean Mannion.
