Chargers quarterback Khalil Mack ponders NFL future heading into free agency

Khalil Mack: Recorder with a charger on winning a ball game, 'Not Money

Mack considered retiring last year before eventually signing a one-year deal to stay in LA. For now, the latest playoff loss is too fresh for him to consider what the future might hold.

“You’re still processing it a little bit, but in the end … you just didn’t do enough to win,” Mack said. “Can’t live with ifs and what-ifs. Turn that page and look forward to getting better in all aspects of the game. The dice fall where they may without talking too far ahead. Try to stay where you are. One of those things where you’re angry, but what happened was meant to be.”

Mack later added that he doesn’t want to “make a decision based on how you feel in the moment, especially after a tough loss. It’s about taking your time and taking that step back.”

Although he missed five games due to injury, Mack compiled 5.5 sacks, 11 QB hits and 32 tackles. His 113 career sacks rank him 29th all-time and seventh among active players.

Even with his production stepping back from being a perennial All-Pro early in his career, a player with Mack’s ability to impact the passer — even on a rotational basis — would still be in demand on the open market. If he decides to continue his career, Mack will find a landing spot in LA or elsewhere.
