Saints signing security Julian Blackmon following the retirement of Tyrann Mathieu

Blackmon in the third round of the draft 2020 was Blackmon no. 88 on Top 101 free agents Gregg Rosenthal, which existed, one of the remaining security stations on the list along with 31 -year -old Justin Simmons.

New Orleans chose the younger option and installed Blackmon to put a slot next to Justin Reid in the defense.

Blackmon is not nearly as Rangy or powerful as Mathieu was in its bloom, but their recent use format in a similar way. The former foal played 874 snapshot with free safety, 175 in the box and 50 in the slot last season, compared to Mathieu’s 700/268/57. 69.3 his overall PFF defense level and 73.5 coverage rating were both higher than what the saints received from their now remarkable parties in 2024 (60.5 overall and 57.8 coverage). Mathieu was stronger against the race, but Blackmon should improve in that regard, considering he played everything last year with a torn rotary weekend after sustaining the injuries in Open Indianapolis.

By signing Blackmon, the saints have connected a hole on the same day that they were allowed to avoid pushing the newcomer to Jonas Sanker in immediate action unless he is ready for it in training camps.

The ceasefire and novice only reported it for the saints, but the team is already making big movements to make up the accessory for the campaign ahead.
