Gerry Philbin, Jets Ring of Honor member and Super Bowl Master, dies 83 years old

Gerry Philbin, the New York Jets star in the 1960s and 1970s and a member of the Lone Super Super Bowl championship team, died at the age of 83, announced the team on Wednesday.

Philbin was the leader of the 1968 Jets, which was unofficial and 14 QB takedowns in the usual period. In his historic upset at Baltimore Colts in the Super Bowl III, the Philbin defense decorated the NFL champions in five transitions (three interceptions NFL MVP Earl Morrall, one by Johnny Unitas and one fumble) and kept them 15-1, in the seventh point.

Philbin was composed of Buffalo of New York in the third round of the Draft Draft 1964 and chose to play for Jets instead of Detroit Lions, which took him in the third round of the Draft. Philbin became full -time at the end of the newcomer, and soon became one of Joe Namath’s best -recognized defenders in New York.

Pass Rusher started 109 of 112 games in the usual season played for the Jets, with a total of 65 sacks being unofficial (four in the team’s history) and one interception in his nine seasons in Big Apple. Philbin equalized at least 10 sacks from 1966-69, one of two Jets players to achieve the game (Verlon Biggs), on the team. He completed his career with Eagles in 1973.

Philbin was the first team of All-power and power All Star for the jets and is a member of power all the time, which was selected in 1970 ahead of the merger. He was moved to the New York honorary ring in 2011 as a member of its second category.
