Raiders GM John Spytek on pick No. 1: "We've had some calls and these teams know where they stand now"

Las Vegas Raiders general manager John Spytek stopped short of confirming the company’s plans with the No. 1 overall pick.

“We’ve had some calls and these teams know where they stand now,” he said Tuesday, smiling, via the team’s official website.

Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza is expected to be selected No. 1 by the Raiders. That would mark the fourth consecutive season in which a QB is selected first overall.

Spytek has been consistent throughout the offseason when asked about a trade offer for the top pick, indicating he’s open to taking calls but never fully diving into the deep discussion. In his second season at the helm, the GM pointed out that there are fewer situations to play through when he has the top pick.

“Much less energy spent on hypotheses,” he said. “We were just talking before we came here – there’s only one team that can get exactly the man they want. And we have that opportunity available to us this year, if we choose.”

Spytek & Co. is expected to will definitely choose. And the pick will be a quarterback coming off a championship run that will help turn around a withering program.
