San Francisco 49ers Secretary of Defense Robert Saleh wants him to use words other than “legal signal to steal” when trying to provide Jacksonville coach Liam Coen, a compliment for the loss last week for Jaguar.
“Whatever happened on Sunday doesn’t change how I feel,” Saleh said through San Francisco Chronicle. “In my heart, really, I tried to praise. I have the fact that I probably used the wrong choice of words.”
Last week, Saleh said Coen, his offensive staff and almost all Sean McVay coaching tree, “legally, really sophisticated signs of stealing.” On Sunday, Coen took an exception from the chatter and approached Saleh after the game and the two had back and forth.
On Tuesday, ahead of Thursday night’s final settlement with the Los Angeles Rams, DC said that the whole situation could be avoided if he had simply said a “movie study” instead of a girl.
“Obviously I did a poor job with the words,” said Saleh. “I mean, if I said the words movie studies, then I don’t think we’re really talking about it. But I used Signal Stealing, and that’s why I was so firmly legally. I was just struggling with the words, but for Sean, the same. These guys are the best in the world and that’s why they are there.
The Jaguars Best Niners 26-21 on Sunday with Saleh’s unit giving up 325 meters in total, most of the season, of which 151 rush.
“I think Liam is doing a hell of a job,” Saleh said. “I really do. You can say that team really takes on his personality and I hope they came out of the game healthy and I wish him good luck for the rest of the season. I wish I could have found better words, but my intention was always to praise the football people.”
49ers coach Kyle Shanahan, who on Friday tried to avoid the situation on the scene by pointing out that Saleh was trying to be a supplement, shut down the system after the game again. Asked which NFL coach could be able to sell best in the fight, Shanahan said: “Just me.” He then agreed that Lions coach and former tea Dan Campbell could top the list.
“I would probably bet on Dan over a lot of people,” said Shanahan. “Saleh is too nice, usually, but it seemed that someone hit a string that day.
