López backs Alvarez for Barcelona, cites Cholo

¿Julián? Tuve de entrenador al Cholo, y yo me voy al BarcelonaEl culebrón protagonizado por Julián Alvarez en verano ya es historia.

Did you see how Alvarez turned his summer drama into triumph? The Atlético forward rebounded spectacularly, netting the winner against Deportivo, earning MVP honors and publicly apologising to the fans, who are already forgiving him.

Across the Atlantic, Maxi López took to TyC Sports to weigh in. The ex‑River and Barcelona striker discussed the Argentine’s current form, insisting he’d have preferred to see the ‘Spider’ don the Barça shirt, believing he outshines his Atlético peers.

López didn’t hold back on Simeone, recalling their stint together at Catania before the Argentine took over at the Vicente Calderón. He praised the coach’s achievements, yet hinted the club could have done more for Alvarez’s development.

“He’s Argentina’s No 9, so Barcelona would suit him perfectly,” López argued. “The Barça play a higher‑level game than Atlético. He left City seeking minutes, found them at Atleti, but promises made later fell through – that’s football.”

I’d have loved to watch him sparkle at Barça, especially after the Cholo’s work at Atlético. Still, the question remains: will Barcelona secure his signature next summer?
