Before Baltimore’s Week 8 game, Jackson was initially listed as a full participant on Friday’s injury report and questionable to play against Chicago. On Saturday, Baltimore upgraded his participation in Friday’s practice to “limited” and demoted the quarterback to out.
“Lamar Jackson was present and fully participated in our entire Friday practice prior to Sunday’s game against the Bears,” the Ravens said at the time. “After further evaluation today and after consulting with the league office, because Lamar did not take starter’s reps in practice, we updated our report to reflect his practice participation.
Jackson actually practiced with the scout team on Friday, suggesting he wasn’t ready to return to action.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Monday that the team’s confusion on the injury list was an “honest mistake.” After an investigation, the NFL concluded that it was.
Baltimore fully cooperated with the investigation, which the department ultimately determined was the result of negligence and not an attempt to gain a competitive advantage. If the investigation had found that the violation was intentional or competitive in nature, the disciplinary action would have been more significant, including potential loss of selection.
With Jackson sidelined in Week 8, backup QB Tyler Huntley led the Ravens to a 30-16 victory over the Bears. Before their Week 9 game, Jackson participated fully in practice all week and was injury-free.
Jackson threw four touchdowns in his return Thursday night, a 28-6 win over the Dolphins.
