Seahawks hire 49ers coach Brian Fleury as offensive coordinator

Seahawks hire 49ers coach Brian Fleury as offensive coordinator

Fleury’s recent expertise at tight ends could be a good fit for the continued development of tight end Elijah Arroyo, a second-round pick who contributed sparingly as a rookie but showed some promise as he hauled in 15 receptions for 179 yards and a touchdown. AJ Barner could likewise benefit from such a hire after finishing second on the team in receptions (52) and receiving touchdowns (six), with 519 yards.

There’s also the running game to think about, a key factor for Seattle throughout the playoffs — especially with Zach Charbonnet coming off a torn ACL and Kenneth Walker III a free agent after having 376 rushing yards and five touchdowns in the postseason, which he ended up winning Super Bowl Most Valuable Player.

Overall, though, coach Mike Macdonald hopes he’s found someone to carry the team’s offensive success following Kubiak’s departure. Seattle finished third in scoring in 2025, the team’s highest mark in 20 years, and Sam Darnold overcame any lingering negative narratives surrounding him to win the Lombardi Trophy.

Macdonald’s ferocious defense will certainly make the transition smoother, but the Seahawks’ chances of defending their crown will also depend on Fleury coming in and keeping the cylinders rolling.
