Packers sign GM Brian Gutekunst, director of football operations Russ Ball to multi-year extension

Packers sign GM Brian Gutekunst, director of football operations Russ Ball to multi-year extension

LaFleur, Green Bay’s coach since 2019, is currently 76-40-1 in the regular season. He has three top scoring offenses during his tenure and his teams have never fallen outside the top half of the league in that regard. Gutekunst has been with the club since starting as a scout in 1999 and was promoted to GM in 2018. Ball, also a longtime front office stalwart, has been with Green Bay since 2008 and similarly won his current title in 2018 as the Packers restructured their front office following former GM Ted Thompson’s move into a senior consulting role.

In that time, the three men have reached the playoffs six times, reached the NFC Championship Game twice while going 3-6 in the postseason combined.

Their last defeat was one of the most disappointing so far. The Packers fell to the rival Bears in the Wild Card round despite leading by 18 points at halftime and opening an 11-point deficit with six minutes left and turnovers in the game.

Nevertheless, the team took a huge swing to create an immediate Super Bowl window by trading for All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons just before the 2025 regular season. He and several other stars suffered injuries as the campaign progressed, and the smart move is to run it back with them healthy rather than travel into the unknown with a roster ready to win right now.

Long anticipated and previously reported, the Packers have officially shut down their brain trust and head coach.
