Purdy has played in just two games this season and hasn’t seen the field since Week 4 with a toe injury suffered in San Francisco’s season-opening win at Seattle. Jones has filled in for Purdy in the 49ers’ six other games and mostly filled the job well, winning four of his six starts while completing 65.9 percent of his passes for 1,597 yards and an 8-5 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
San Francisco has weathered a bevy of injuries through eight weeks, posting a 5-3 record that has them in the thick of the NFC West race despite playing without receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Ricky Pearsall (out Sunday) for most, if not all, of the 2025 season.
We’ll see if Jones can lead them to victory on Sunday after falling in Houston last weekend.
