Can a team bounce back after losing its starter and its premier pass rusher in one week? The Giants saw Jaxson Dart go down for the season Monday, then watched Brian Burns suffer the same fate Sunday, and Coach John Harbaugh insists they must rally.
Harbaugh reminded everyone that injuries are part of the game. “We lost our quarterback one week and likely our top defender the next—it’s a shock,” he said. “We have to shake it off, find a way to compete and win. My heart aches for Brian; his pain hits me harder than anything.”
When Burns left the field, Harbaugh first thought it was a minor issue, but scans later confirmed a torn ACL that ends his season. In my view, that loss is a bigger blow than any other injury the Giants have faced this year.
Harbaugh called Burns more than a star—he’s the defensive captain and a true leader. “Seeing him go down after a slick cut, planting his foot and taking a brutal side hit, was gut‑wrenching,” the coach said. “Those knee blows look small at first, but they sting emotionally, especially for the player.”
Burns has started every game since the Giants acquired him in 2024 and posted 16.5 sacks last season, the league’s second‑best total. Will the defense find new ways to pressure quarterbacks without him?
