Knicks Waive Drew Eubanks After Torn Pectoral

Drew Eubanks Suffers Torn Pectoral Muscle, Waived By KnicksWill the Knicks find a healthy big man before the season kicks off?

12:44 pm: The Knicks have cut Eubanks, confirming the move on Twitter. They also released Bradley and Agbaji, as we reported earlier.

9:48 am: A torn pectoral will keep Drew Eubanks sidelined for an extended stretch, ending his chase for New York’s third center slot, ESPN’s Shams Charania reports via Twitter.

Eubanks, 29, brings eight NBA seasons and 426 regular‑season games from stints with the Spurs, Trail Blazers, Suns, Jazz, Clippers and Kings. Last year he logged 42 games (11 starts) for Sacramento, averaging 5.2 points and 3.0 rebounds in 13.1 minutes.

He was one of three veteran bigs competing for a roster spot this fall, alongside James Wiseman and Tony Bradley. In three preseason outings he tallied 13 points and three rebounds across 28 minutes.

Because his deal was an Exhibit 9, the Knicks avoid paying his salary while he’s injured. They’ll owe a single $15K waiver fee, which counts against the cap.

In my view, dropping Eubanks was a harsh but necessary move; the fight for the 14th roster slot now narrows to Wiseman versus Bradley, and Wiseman appears to have the edge, per SNY’s Ian Begley.

The Knicks already have 13 guaranteed contracts and could keep two camp invites like Bruce Brown and Ochai Agbaji, but adding a full 15‑man roster would push them over the second tax apron—a line owner James Dolan won’t cross.
