Ian Schieffelin landed in Miami on Friday, signing an Exhibit‑10 contract, the Heat announced. Could this be the spark the roster needs?
The former Clemson forward spent four seasons (2021‑25) with the Tigers, posting 12.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game as a senior, shooting 49.5% from the field, 34.1% from deep and 74.1% from the line over 34 contests. He also tried his hand at football, catching eight passes as a graduate tight end.
“It’s a huge blessing. Not many can claim what I’ve done this past year,” Schieffelin said in July. “Returning to basketball, the Heat giving me a Summer League chance—it’s all been amazing.”
In the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer Leagues, Schieffelin appeared in five games, averaging 8.4 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 46.7% overall, 42.9% from three and a perfect 100% from the charity stripe.
A handful of South Florida reporters, including Ira Winderman of The Sun Sentinel, noted in August that Miami reached an Exhibit‑10 deal with undrafted USC guard Ezra Ausar. For my money, the Ausar pact could be a savvy low‑risk move, though the transaction remains pending per Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald.
Former Kansas wing Tre White, who shone in Summer League, also had a tentative Exhibit‑10 with the Heat. A court granted him a temporary restraining order so he can pursue a fifth collegiate season and practice with Kansas, the program confirmed via Twitter today.
The NCAA intends to appeal the ruling, Jackson adds, but White has made clear his goal is to return to college basketball if the opportunity arises.
The Heat chose not to add Gabe Vincent to camp, and sources suggest D’Angelo Russell and Ryan Nembhard are unlikely targets. Russell was waived by Memphis on Friday, while Nembhard is expected to be cut by Charlotte. Will the Heat find a hidden gem among the waived players?
