When they weren’t harassing Goff to look like a MAC quarterback, the Eagles were hitting his passes like a Robertlandy Simon mixtape. Davis scored three passes, Jalen Carter added two.
The stifling defense held the Lions’ explosive offense to a career-high 317 rushing yards and 13 first downs. Aside from a couple of short throws by Jahmyr Gibbs for a big gain and a pass to Jameson Williams for a touchdown, Detroit was ruled out.
Last week’s 10-7 win at Lambeau Field marked the first time Philly has allowed 10 or fewer points in consecutive games since Weeks 2-3 in 2022.
On Sunday night, Philly won in a blowout. The fourth-down-happy Lions went 0-for-5 on fourth down and 3-for-13 on third down. Every big play that needed to be made, the Eagles made Sunday night.
“The defense played with ease; it was one of the best performances I’ve ever seen,” quarterback Jalen Hurts said. “So really, really big game on that side of the ball. To be able to do what they did in the fourth against a really good offense … a high-powered offense that’s capable of doing really special things … I have a lot of respect for that.”
A championship defense, improved by the addition of Jaelan Phillips (a team-high six QB pressures), covers a still-struggling offense that gained just 272 yards and scored seven times despite excellent field position from the defense.
Coach Nick Sirianni’s team continues its ugly winning streak. The hope is that the offense will eventually find its footing. Until then, they have a defense they know can carry them well into January.
“I think we pride ourselves on just winning, period,” Sirianni said. “As I watched football today [around the league]I feel like I’ve seen a lot of teams waiting to lose. Our team is waiting to win because they know how to win. There’s something to be said for knowing how to win and knowing how to find ways to win.”
